County board eyes open records policy

NEVADA — Calling it a way of streamlining the public information request process, the Story County Board of Supervisors considered a countywide policy Tuesday regarding the handling of freedom of information act requests. The draft policy was brought before the board by Matt Emerson, web developer with the county’s information technology department.

Story Medical has $16M economic impact

Story Medical Center’s impact on the Story County economy grew to $16 million in 2011, according to the latest study by the Iowa Hospital Association. The business supports 187 full-time jobs in five county communities, with $12.5 million in payroll and proprietor income, $3.4 million in retail sales and about $200,000 in sales taxes, according to the study.

Good Samaritan makes up robbery story

Lyon County, Iowa authorities say a man who claimed he was robbed by two people on a highway outside of Larchwood Monday morning made the story up. The Sheriff's Department arrested Aaron Abels Tuesday night on two counts of false reporting. Both of those counts are misdemeanors.
